Heavy Highway

We are specialists in local site work including heavy equipment operations, paving, and earthmoving. We work closely with local municipalities, providing competitive bids and delivering projects in a timely and safe manner.

Harriman Toll Plaza

The New York State (NYS) Thruway Authority implemented cashless tolling at the Harriman Toll Barrier for the Woodbury Transit and Economic Hub, ensuring that motorists driving through this interchange can pass through more quickly. The NYS Thruway Authority converted the toll barrier for northbound traffic seeking to access Woodbury Common and NY Route 17 to cashless tolling. For southbound traffic from the Thruway’s ticketed portion of the system, two temporary toll lanes remained in place until 2020, at which time the Thruway converted to cashless tolling system wide.

Our project included the removal of the previous toll barrier and the construction of overhead gantries equipped with state-of-the-art electronic toll collection technology. The installed gantries include highway speed automatic vehicle identification, automatic vehicle classification and detection, and video tolling equipment, including a vehicle enforcement system. One gantry is located immediately west of the Route 17 bridge over the railroad and the second on the southbound acceleration ramp, adjacent to the Woodbury Toll Plaza.

New Hempstead Road Reconstruction Project

Our complex, $28 million total rebuild of New Hempstead Road (NHR) overhauled a major artery servicing the New City central business district, the county’s government buildings, and the Supreme Court of New York, Rockland County.

This project spanned approximately 2.5 miles from Main Street in New City to the Palisades Interstate Parkway. The existing drainage system and culverts throughout were removed and replaced, including several large diameter culverts at depths over 23 feet. The project also included the construction of 18 retaining walls up to 300 feet in length, demolition of the former Rockland County Sheriffs’ Building (allowing the NHR “S” curve hill to be reconstructed to conform to contemporary standards), demolition of the existing Demarest Kill Bridge, and construction of a precast concrete arch span unit 85 feet in length, which provides two additional traffic lanes.

In addition to the installation of several new turning lanes at key intersections and the relocation of existing stone walls, the entire roadway was removed and replaced. The finished product included installation of new sidewalks, granite curbs, retaining walls, and a stone veneer on the Demarest Kill Bridge.

Bronx River Parkway

For a major highway reconstruction for the County of Westchester, we developed a 1.5-mile section of highway involving a section of the Bronx River Parkway between Cemetery Road and Virginia Road.

In addition to resurfacing highway, we also installed new drainage throughout and constructed a new, 12-foot-wide grassed median to pre-treat storm water and provide wet swales, bio-retention areas, and infiltration trenches for treatment practices. Additionally, we installed new traffic signals and fiber optic cables and widened parts of the road in an effort to improve line-of-sight distance.
